We have a deck with full southern exposure and it gets hot! We debated putting up a sun sail but want to have something we can take down easily at night. We have two smaller umbrellas but even at full tilt they couldnt do half the job this thing does. The tilt makes all the difference, especially for late afternoon sun. It is also the optimum size to shade our seating area. Only drawback is the size of the base. We have ours off the deck. The footprint is quite large.
I intially had difficulty getting the umbrella to unfold only to discover that I needed to remove the added styrofoam protection connected to the inside of the umbrella. After removing the styrofoam it unfolded as expected. I am very pleased with the quality of the materials and how easy it is to raise and lower the umbrella. We ordered the brown to match our Trek decking boards and it looks even better than expected. I purchased the larger 40 x 40 base and have no absolutely no issues with the wind as the base is very solid. DEFINETLY TWO THUMBS UP!
I purchased this product from along with the 34 plastic base which was recommended. Items arrived in a timely manner in two separate boxes. The box with the umbrella is very long so be prepared for that if you order one. Upon opening the umbrella box, I realized immediately that I was dealing with a quality product. All components were substantial well constructed. In other words, no flimsy metal or plastic. The other great thing is that the umbrella comes (for the most part) pre/assembled. You just bolt the metal stem onto the plastic base (which takes about 2 minutes), slip the umbrella mast over the stem youre good to go. Id highly recommend filling the plastic base with water and/or sand before doing this to insure the umbrella doesnt tip over. (Just make sure you set the base where you want it first / it will be difficult to move afterward). Once assembled, I noticed that the umbrella operated very smoothly / you can literally raise/lower it with one hand. There are two cranks / one to expand/collapse the umbrella one to rotate the whole unit up to 360 degrees. There is also a canvas cover included which protects the whole unit when its in the stowed position.
This product provides a nice pool of shade on our patio which is big enough to get 2 lounge chairs under. While I wouldnt recommend using this umbrella/base in very windy conditions, weve used it on breezy days with no issues. Overall, a high quality product at a reasonable price. You can find cheaper cantilever umbrellas of this size but Id be very skeptical of the quality durability. This product seems to find a nice balance between quality price.
This umbrella is great! Easy to assemble and maneuver in any direction. The 360 degree spin is awesome along with the tilt feature.
I would recommend this umbrella to anyone.
Using the umbrella and stand on my lanai for extra shade. Need to be aware of the height in a enclosed pool cage. Very easy to manipulate and put away. The base that I purchased is great for stability. It is quite large, so this is something you need to consider in an enclosed area. The base is filled with water, but the wheels that are on the bottom are useless as they do not even touch the ground.
I bought this 9 square offset umbrella in turquoise blue PLUS the base. I ALSO bought the 10 round offset umbrella in turquoise blue PLUS the base. ALL from . Yes/ well made looking and very attractive. I spent a lot of money buying all these things. The square umbrella was placed onto my patio and the round umbrella onto my deck. I was hoping to have both umbrellas match in color but they did not. One was very much light in color than the other. Nice turquoise blue colors otherwise so I kept both. The bases, by the way, were very solid and nice looking. I have a lot of sun in the back so these will come in very handy. I already knew how to put these units together as I was replacing an old offset umbrella but I felt the instructions given could have been a little more explanatory. Also in the instructions, it mentions there being a foot pedal to hold the umbrella in place once you rotate it to a desired location. There is no foot pedal. Old instructions. As for the bases, I took my time and filled them with sand. Theres 2 holes in the top of the bases to do this. Holes are not centered however so I used a blower in the holes to try and move the sand to all spots. It would have been better if a total of 4 holes were provided at the top for doing this chore to evenly spread the sand into it. So getting the sand to all parts was very hard. Besides, I plan on leaving these in the same location through out the winter. Just cover them up.
One thing I did not like was that when I ordered these 2 umbrellas and the 2 bases, it would have been nice if an option was offered to buyers like me: In the umbrella boxes it also contains a set of metal base bars (for people who do not purchase the bases). These base bars are used to bolt the unit down to a deck, for example. Its useless for me,
however, because I purchased the bases. Im stuck with these base bars and yet, had to purchase them with the umbrellas. should have offered the option of removing these and reducing the price if a person purchases the separate bases at the time of sale. The bases that I purchased, by the way, have the built in bars already installed, so . but I think these umbrellas are all packed and boxed the same in the factory. But again, if youre purchasing the separate bases, then these other base bars contained in the box are useless. Waste of money. Umbrellas also come with a cover. It looks pretty nice. There are wheels under the base by the way/just on one side. Impossible to move unit once its filled. Also/ before trying to open the umbrella up, you have to look inside it as they used Styrofoam and tape to pack the prongs up. The instructions dont tell you to remove them before hand and youre trying to open the umbrella only to discover theyre inside the umbrella so you have to try and reach in and up to cut them out.
But nice umbrellas. NOT waterproof. The first thing written in the instructions tells you this. For the money I spent, I think it should have been waterproofed.
