This playpen works great for my chinchilla! Its tall enough that she cant jump over it and the bar spacing is small enough that she cannot fit through the bars! The panels are heavy and sturdy, and come attached out of the box so you can use it right away. It was also delivered quickly. I highly recommend!
I did NOT receive a discount or any compensation for my review. :) just giving my honest opinion and paid full price.
Ive purchased small animal exercise pens by other manufacturers before, and this is by far the best quality. This ex pen is sturdy and easy to adapt to many uses. I purchased it to create a room for my house rabbit. Photos attached. Ive covered the pen with an old curtain, added a natural jute rug (no dye), and attached shelves and a cardboard box hideout so bunny can climb. It also could be used to create a front yard to a cage, or to create a play area in another area of the home. Expansion panels are available to enlarge the square footage, but the basic set up (8 panels) is 9 square feet.
I dont know about what ferrets require for housing, so I cant comment on that. This pen is not appropriate for hamsters or rats, as they can easily squeeze between the bars. But when it comes to guinea pigs or rabbits, this is a much better housing option than a cage.
Im very pleased with this purchase and highly recommend this product as an exceptionally good quality ex pen at this price point.
We use this gate cage instead of the store bought ferret cage at all times so they have room to roam free. May buy one more to connect to this one,(they do connect easily)but ones way bigger than any cage and plenty of room. They run and play often. Bars are such that they cant climb out and they do try. The cage style water bottle works fine with it. I added one of the high back corner potties which i zip tied to the side, not for poop but food, they poop where they please. Now they no longer make a huge mess of their food. All this sits atop an 8 by 10 foot tarp. I bought 2 tarps. They poop against the fence like most ferrets. I toilet brush the feces off the bottom, then i lift slightly one side at a time and move it over, off and away from feces covered tarp. I leave them in while i do this but a carrier would be better because they do sometime use the basement floor as a potty while im doing this. I drag tarp with waste out back door, hose off, hang to dry, grab the last one thats now dry from the last time i cleaned, lay it down and drag the cage back over it. The abilityof this cage to fold allows u to make it small b4 lifting se eral sections at once and the ferets dont get hurt even tho they are still in it. It now takes 5 or 10 minutes instead of an hour. With the hose i dont get dirty. I love this cage. U can buy a rubber botom but after looking at it i think the tarp is easier and i read they get chewed thru plus i dont need feces overspray from the hose hitting the lip and shooting it straight up into my face or covering my head. plus id need 2 and a small carrier every time, but the tarp was only 6 bucks. Its taken 6 weeks but i finally got this down to a fine art, its quick amd easy and they are happy as can be!
Love this cage! I have one adult rabbit and it is perfect for him. He has a lot of room to play. I put his old store-bought cage inside this new one for him to use as a liter box and it works great. You can manipulate the shape how you want, so mine is a rectangle. Plenty of room for playing, but too high for him to jump out. I did not buy the tarp for the floor because I read reviews that the bunnies destroy it. Putting my rabbits old cage in solved the problem of poop or anything flying out...Rabbits are creatures of habit and will always go in the same place (disgustingly where their food is) making them very easy to potty train!
Use this for our chicks during the day, works great. If you buy this for keeping chickens, get the floor mat that can be used as a cover. It gives them shade and also protects them.

Great size, and probably perfect for animals that dont jump, but our ferret learned to escape after a few hours.
Keeps both ferrets in!
