Buy a different rear derailleur at the same time.

My front forks were tweaked in shipping, to the point I was worried I was going to have to send the bike back (a second time, first time shipped me the WRONG BIKE, wrong frame, wrong color, wrong wheel size). However, I was able to rectify that situation with some persuasion. I will say that, when putting this bike together, I was HUGELY disappointed in the quality of the rear derailleur. I tried to get it adjusted (not my first rodeo with derailleurs and I am mechanically inclined). No go. Bought the derailleur that should have installed on this bike to match the shifters. Should be about 18 shipped to your door and a major upgrade. The front derailleur was decent enough that I left it alone (it would actually adjust). I have not put this on a trail yet, so I do not know how it will hold up to that abuse. I am cautiously optimistic. However, this generation is nothing like my old 1999 Mesa LE that I still have and can beat the ! out of on a trail. Granted, the two bikes are in different price categories (a bike of similar caliber to my old Mesa would be 800/1000 today), but still, it is telling that Huffy has cheaped out. I am getting older and wanted a larger wheeled bike that is lighter than my old chromoly frame.

Not for actual mountain biking, but good for strolls

My son saved up his money for a year and purchased his own mountain bike. It was just fine for riding around the neighborhood, but unfortunately, when he took it to the foothills and went off a jump, the pedal went crooked and sloped downward, stripping the screw. We just got it a couple of months ago and it looks like doesnt offer a return. Ill look into it with . Its very pretty, and good for casual neighborhood strolls just fine, but well want to replace it with something a bit sturdier.

    Dont buy!

Rear gear and shifter not working properly (chain constantly slacking). This is a brand new bicycle and is already in the repair shop. Friendly advice, stay aways from this bicycle!!! Garbage!

    Nice but some problems

His is really not for beginners because of the shifting of gears. learning how to use the friction shift is difficult while trying to learn your balance. The rear inner tube got a hole in it by the valve stem, so I had to buy another one myself. It was a defective tube and not are fault. Had to readjust the rear brakes as they were rumbling on the inside pad. The biggest problem was the front brakes, the rotor was rubbing against the caliper, so it was metal to metal. If you see in the picture I had to put a washer between the caliper to stop it from rubbing against the rotor. Then had to adjust the front brakes again. Its a nice bike but you will have small problems with it. If you cant fix it you better find a bike shop close by.

    Sturdy Steel Bike

I didnt realize the frame was STEEL, so the bike is much heavier than I expected. The shocks dont slide very smoothly. Also, there was a manufacturer fault in both shifters. Pacific Cycle was hard to get ahold of (at least 1/hr with several disconnects from their end), however, they sent replacement parts and talked me through the repair. Overall, I thought I was getting a great deal on a 250 bike, but really, this thing is about worth the sale price of 180 I got it for. Rides smooth, and adjustments are easy to make. pros: / Smooth Ride / Easy adjustments / Mostly assembled (only need to put on seat, front wheel, and handlebar) / pre/drilled and threaded mounts everywhere youd want them (the bolt size for the bike rack mount is 12 [not in manual]) / Very Sturdy / Stock seat is not terrible (Im 220lbs) cons: / heavy / shocks stick a bit / arrived w/ broken shifters
