PROS: This bed is super sturdy, and my 5yo son loves it. We love the steps because it seems safer than a ladder at this age, and he loves that he can store toys and things in it. I love that (even though the loft is pretty low) we can store bins of toys under it and he can play underneath it. Once everything is tightened up, the construction feels really secure. The pieces were very well labeled and the asembly instructions were clear. However, be warned....
CONS: I joked to a friend that the only thing I've ever bought that came in more pieces was a bag of granulated sugar. It's a good thing the pieces are labeled so meticulously and the instructions are simple and clear—all 41 pages of them!!—because man oh man, it is a LOT of steps and pieces. My husband and I thought we'd put it together on a Friday when we were both home and our son was at school, to surprise him, but two days later we were still only on step 20 out of 41. It's ridiculous, because this thing COULD easily come partially assembled, so that you'd just have to attach the major pieces to each other (support slats to rails and headboard and so on)—but nope, EVERY SINGLE TINY PIECE is separate: every slat, every bar, every screw and washer, probably a couple hundred pieces. I'd estimate we spent a total of 12-15 hours on it. I think this would be super overwhelming if I were a single parent or hadn't had basically a whole weekend to devote to it. (As it was, my husband took the morning off work on Monday just to finish the and$% thing.)
My 3 1/2 year old LOVES this bed and it adds a lot of space in her room with the storage space underneath. Overall its great. My husband and I spent 4 hours setting it up.....4 hours! You put all the pieces together with an Allen wrench which I think it why it takes so long. All in all I am happy with our purchase and my daughter is so very happy.
I have a son who is very hard on furniture but took a chance on this as the slats were out of wood (most places don't understand wood slats are a horrible idea for kids). I'm happy to say that it's still going strong and I like that he has a place to hide underneath but isn't too far off the ground because little boys are fearless. The only drawback is that the instructions weren't as clear as I hoped so it took me much longer to put together than I think it should. If your child has autism, sensory processing disorder, or something like that I would definitely recommend.
I was a bit concerned seeing some people talking about this taking 6 hours to put together. Fortunately that was incorrect. I did this alone, and it took me all of about 90 minutes. Actually about 120 minutes, but I'm subtracting the 30 minutes I spent on the top tube with this horrendous foot and a half long ugly sticker about warnings that they said Do not remove. I couldn't stand how ugly that huge white sticker was (photo uploaded), with the majority of the warnings in foreign languages anyway, so I spent the time stripping it off and using goo gone to remove the residue afterwards. Looks much better with the solid black tube on top there, rather than this monstrosity of a sticker.
Assembly - a bit of a pain. Some things just don't quite line up well and it took some muscle to get things in place so the screws would go in. This would've been easier with a second person, but cest la vie. I got it done.
I was replacing a similar bed, but much larger. The loft bed this replaced was over 6 feet high, had a full length desk underneath, was far more functional. But for some reason, despite being used by my son for almost 4 years, when we rearranged his room, he became afraid of sleeping in it, so I had to downsize to one closer to the ground. I used the freecycle webpage to give away the old one, and this went in its place.
Some people had bad shipping experiences, but mine arrived in absolutely perfect condition. Wood, wood, all was perfect. No scratches, no dents in the wood.
One thing I liked about the one I had to replace was that the desk helped square everything. This has no parts to help get it squared, you're left to do that by eye. And even after it's together, if someone bangs into one of the posts, they can bend things out of square again as well. So this one is sturdy enough to sleep in, but not as solid at holding its shape as the old one was.
But beyond that, it did the job. I just don't think it's really worth the cost, considering I didn't spend that much more for the much larger bed this is replacing. That's why I took off a star. Value for cost isn't as good as the other was by the same manufacturer. And the cams used for the wood storage steps were just not that good - they're holding it together, but they didn't sit flush to the wood, they actually came back OUT so they protrude inside the storage area. An annoyance for me, and I've included a photo of that as well.
But it worked well, wasn't too difficult to assemble alone, and most important, my son will sleep in the bed again. For me, that's a win.
A great little bed for any kid! Sturdy
This wood frame beats pressed wood all day long! This is a bed that will last for many years, and will go down from oldest to the youngest in the family as a hand me down. With all the great things I can say about this bed, there's one thing: if you're disabled or not savvy with putting things together, then I'd find help before buying this bed. If you are able well then ready to work!!! Because work, you will my friend. This bed is in 500 pieces, it seemed, and starts from tiny pieces to big side panels, but the good part is the instructions are pretty good! So, all in all: great bed, but you will be making this bed from top to bottom.

Sturdy, fun, but buyer beware: comes in a MILLION PIECES and takes forever to assemble

Still going strong.

Replaced another bed with this one, both worked well
