I did extensive research before I purchased the Moutec Large Rifle Safe. During that research, I found this safe on 3 different best of lists on the net, read most of the reviews on and others. One comment I kept running into was how good Alan, of Moutec customer service is. Those two factors pushed me to purchase this particular safe.
After I purchased the safe, the shipping company emailed me that I would have the safe on Saturday by 9:00 pm, but at 8:30 pm on that Saturday, I received another email saying the delivery was delayed and that I should contact Moutec, which I did, on that Saturday night. In a very short time, (that night!) Alan emailed me back telling me Id have it Monday. That was impressive!
However, it came on Sunday, the next day! Even more impressive!
So, how is the safe itself? Everything I expected, based on all of the positive review, and more than I expected. The packaging, which was exceptional, kept the safe, safe! No dings, no dents – just a perfect new safe.
The keys, hardware, batteries, warranty and instructions were attached to the handle on the outside of the locked safe in a little black pouch. Using the key to unlock the safe is simplicity itself, as is putting in the batteries and setting the code on the keypad – all done in the matter of a few minutes. It is extremely well built, especially for this price point. It is balanced and wont fall over when the door is open and not yet bolted to a wall or floor, but then again, to not bolt it to something kind of defeats the whole purpose, doesnt it?
You would have to spend thousands for a real safe. This is not that, nor is it meant to be. What this safe will do is protect your guns and belongings from children, nosy people who may be in your home, and keep guns out of the hands of your everyday, common break-in thief. Mine is mounted in a corner, bolted to the wall and the floor and is out of sight. Unless the thief is a pro, good luck getting into it.
I am extremely pleased with Moutec - the product and Alan. If you are reading this because you are considering purchasing this safe, I recommend strongly that you do. This is a lot of product for the money and it is backed by a company with great customer service.
