It is very difficult to get into the top bunk as the rail goes straight across. The last bunk bed I had like this had a dip in the rail where the ladder goes it was much better. Also the ladder steps could be a bit broader or flattened where the foot steps - they hurt the feet to climb on. Otherwise very good and sturdy. Futon folds up and down easily and licks into place well.
