Takes up less space. I like the size, the fact that there is space in the bottom to store items. There is perfect space top and bottom to sit up comfortably. Now to see if it withstands the test of time. My 8 and 10 year old loved them. The top bunk does need about an 8 inch mattress no bigger so the person does not roll over and fall.
