Effective. The bed is great looking and seems to be good quality. As mentioned in other reviews the directions could use some help but all in all everything went together smoothly. The only complaint I have is that the shelving for the bookcase portion had damage to the corners. This is due to improper packaging material that protects the ends of the package during shipping. Even with this issue Im pleased with the quality of the bed, highly recommend to those looking for a versatile bed with a desk.
