Bought this for a 12 month old grand son to transition from his small Montessori like floor bed. It was advertised as poplar, but looks like pine. Its smooth, but not smooth enough yet for say polyurethane. Half an hour with 320 or 400 grit sandpaper would cure this. Assembly takes maybe 20 minutes. All pieces are coded and an S shaped Allen wrench is included. This Allen wrench is annoying, since it is short and allows minimal torque. I used a longer wrench from another furniture some assembly necessary company. Overall it looks OK, but the screw head at the peak stays proud. Siblings have been told to stay away, since it has nothing to prevent sway.
Not bad. Not poplar.
