Nowhere near enough space between bunks, poor bunk support

Initially I was very happy with it. Easy assembly. But after it was setup and we put the mattress on it, our kids sat on his bed and we immediately knew that whoever designed the bed, did not have kids. Nowhere near enough space between beds and top bunk was needlessly low also. I haven't had time to finish the modifications, but the second photo shows what I had to do to make it work for us. First off the bed has zero height adjustment on the legs, and out floor is very uneven. So I had to fabricate adjusters that I will remove after I cut permanent leg extensions at the height I need. Then I cut a 4x4 into 10 sections. I filled a hole in the corner and another at the other end. I purchased 3/8 threaded rod for the end without a dowel. I will go back and cut the 4x4 sections down to size later but they worked great. We have a twin mattress on top, but I'm going to build a shelf to go in the back to take up the extra space and give my kid a place to put stuff. Sometimes I think it would be easier and better to just build my own stuff because these companies seem to be incompetent most of the time. One example is the crap support system this bed has for the slats. The bottom slat supports aren't positioned properly and any floor imperfection will cause a major problem. The top bed slats have a puny little 1.5x1.5 down the middle supported by 2 flimsy brackets. I purchased a sheet of Premium MDF and placed it on top of the slats to give good support. In all I spent about $100 on lumber to make this bed acceptable and usable. Otherwise, I would have returned this garbage. I only give 2 stars because assembly was so easy a child could do it. However I ignored the foolish step to assemble the top bunk before adding it to the bottom. I put the ends on top of the bottom section and assembled the top there. I then used 3 lag screws to fasten the ladder to the 4x4 extension. My kid can use the ladder perfectly fine with it like this. Later I'll extend the ladder like it should be.
