Seems great at first, but dangerously cheap construction led to breaking
I loved this chair when I first got it. It was easy to put together - almost too easy, as some parts just got pushed into place that on other chairs would require screws - the velvet is great quality, very soft and a good color that matches the product photos. It’s super comfortable for long-term sitting (I used it as a desk chair and work from home), and my wide hips and thick thighs (5’4” 275lbs) fit into it just fine. It’s beautiful and seemed good quality.
After a few months, the velvet started rubbing off the seat. A patch in the middle of the seat has gone bald, and while it hasn’t lost its color, it does make the seat look stained with something white/clear depending on how the light hits it which is kind of embarrassing even if *I* know it’s just rubbed smooth. Unfortunate but to be expected with velvet, just something I hadn’t thought about.
However, what made me drop 3 stars from the review is that after a few months of using it, I moved and went from carpet with a chair mat to a hardwood floor, which it tended to skid on a bit. Not really a problem but after two days on this new floor I leaned over to pick something up off the ground and the chair scooted out from under me and one of the casters snapped off. My wife and I examined the chair to see if it could be put back on and discovered that the casters are only connected to the chair legs by three tiny spot welds on the metal, all of which had snapped off when my chair went out from under me, so no way to fix it. Cheap construction for sure and really unnerving for a chair with such a high supposed weight rating. I almost smashed my face into the windowsill when I fell and it could’ve been a lot worse than just spilling the glass of water I was holding (which thankfully missed my laptop as well).
So, 2 stars for how much I loved it for the time I was able to use it, but -3 stars for the fact that it broke so soon and so easily and the cheap construction quality. Please pay attention to my review - there are a lot of positive ones here which led me to purchase this, but the way in which this broke could be potentially quite dangerous if you were to hit your head when falling or fall onto something sharp. Sad this story ended so poorly.
