Just received and assembled this.here are my thoughts.
- I was a little concerned when the package arrived as the box looked like it had been through a bit. Kinda reminded me of something that had been returned and re-shipped. I was relieved to see the materials were all very well packed and in new condition. All of the parts were well labeled and separated.
- My first impression while working through the unpacking process was that everything felt very substantial, very furniture-y. I also like that the base of the chair was wood rather than plastic; I hadnt caught that detail when I bought it. Also, the tension and seat adjust levers are covered in leather too, a nice touch.
- If youve assembled as many of these sorts of things as I have, you know that one of the challenges is trying to get everything oriented correctly. I found the assembly very easy to understand, and the pictures were large and clear enough to get a sense of this, which is far from universal in assembly instructions.
- 12 screws total to put in, which isnt bad, but its certainly a bit of a knuckle buster to get them tightened up with the tool provided. A fair bit of torque is needed so if you have larger allen wrenches, use them. All in all, I was able to assemble with the tool provided and never felt the need to go fishing in my toolbox. Definitely read the instructions regarding when to tighten and when to leave loose; getting the arms aligned was fairly tricky and its made easier by leaving the plate to the seat back a bit loose while you wrestle those arms into place.
All in all, I found this a pretty easy assembly, completed it by myself, though in fairness Im 6 foot 5. I could see a small person having difficulty getting things aligned.
I can only offer initial impressions on usage, of course. The seat is VERY firm. Im sure my rear end will work on that little detail in short order. Again, if youre looking for something that sort of straddles the line between office chair and furniture look, and dont want to lay out the extra 100-200 bucks to get it, this guy appears to be a very nice compromise. Im hoping to get years of good use out of it, but once Ive used this a few months Ill update this review. For nowvery glad I purchased it and would definitely recommend.
