Overall, the bunkbed will work for us. However, we will be purchasing stronger slats for the bed above. They flex a little too much and my son is only 4. Also, the side rails on the top are not very strong. Ill be finding stronger wood and painting it black to replace these eventually. I dont see them being a problem at the moment but as my son gets bigger they wont hold him in if he rolls into them.
