Not too difficult to put together, probably took 45 minutes. Its perfect for what I wanted it for (mostly for the pup) but it is not a couch you want to hangout on or cuddle up and watch a movie. As for the futon part I definitely plan on getting a mattress topper or something to make it comfortable to sleep on
