I was initially concerned that the light wood slats would break under the weight of our heavy mattress, especially with us on top of it, but thus far (its been two months since purchase), there have been no issues. Unlike more critical reviewers, we did not encounter a wood smell or notice anything plastic about the bed at all. If youre buying a king-size as we did, be forewarned that it will arrive in four boxes, two of which are huge and heavy (especially the headboard), and not at all easy to get through doors or around corners that dont have a lot of space.
