The king version of this bed arrived in 4 boxes via FEDEX. The delivery man was very helpful, as our front porch is 7 steps up from the sidewalk. He slid the 3 long (and lighter) boxes up onto the porch and then came up on the porch and helped me get the last (and biggest) box onto our movers dolly and then get it up over our kind of tall front door threshold. According to the bill of lading the 4 boxes weighed 246 pounds altogether. The 3 long boxes (one for the head- and foot-boards, one for the sides and some odds and ends, and one for the slats) werent too hard for me to handle by myself, even tho I am 73 now and not in the best of shape. The last box, however - contains all the drawers and the rest of the parts so it weighs more than 120 pounds - youre gonna need 2 people or a dolly or strong cart to move it around.
The description says the drawers come pre-assembled. This is true and happily is only half the story about the drawers. The drawers are also INSTALLED IN A BOX OR CABINET! Ive set up drawer roller systems before and know this can be a tricky proposition, but for this bed it is already done for you! and this is why their box weighs so much. Each pair of drawers in their cabinet weighs about 55 pounds and there are 2 cabinet/drawers sets in one double thickness box with more cardboard and Styrofoam and padding foam sheets and stretch wrap and tape (lots of tape), so youre pushing 130 pounds for the whole thing. Oh, and the drawers have actual dovetailed corners so they should stand up to many years of being pulled open and pushed shut.
After getting everything out of the boxes, it took me about 2-1/2 hours to assemble this bed, mostly by myself. It was helpful to have a cordless variable speed drill with adjustable clutch (which I set to a fairly soft slip so I wouldnt over-drive or strip any strews). If you dont have the drill, youll just need a 2 Phillips screwdriver - they supply an Allen wrench for the bolts that need it.
Quite happy with the king size version
