Assembly was relatively easy, but you definitely need space, especially for the twin size. We assembled the bed upside down and then flipped it over, so you need clearance to do so. I followed other reviewers' advice and waited until the end to tighten everything, which worked well. The bed comes with two ladders, which is a nice bonus.
