Lets be honest, the 500 couch budget doesnt offer the world for choices. No one would deny the options are much greater at 3x the budget. So when youre in this price range, you want something thats actually made DECENTLY. You (like me) dont have the budget for a 2500 hand/made Amish Oak couch. So our hard earned dough has to be put to something that has some quality and might last.
Short short version / you cant put your 500 on a better couch in my opinion. Period.
Long version. I had a horrible futon in my basement man cave. To say it didnt compliment my movie poster collection is an understatement. Beyond the aesthetics, it was horribly uncomfortable and quite worn. Perhaps even bent a little. I got this, called my friend to pick up his new (quite used) futon and got him to help me carry this into the basement.
Assembly was a breeze. So easy that the back portion that you slide into the 2 arms recommends doing it with 2 people, yet I had no problem getting it to go in while holding the back with one hand and guiding the end with my other and opening up the arms ever so slightly. Had no problem it went right in. So it recommends 2 people for this assembly step, but I found it extremely simple by myself.
The only thing of note in the assembly was during unboxing I noticed one of the cushions was vacuum sealed and the other wasnt, so the 1 cushion has a little wrinkle to it from being vacuum sealed and the other one does not. I have no doubt this will work itself out in a few days by itself, but if it doesnt I would imagine an iron on low heat would work to smooth it out a bit.
The bottom frame has a center support, which makes it feel solid and you dont get any sink when you sit in the middle. Super nice. The cushions are all velcro/attached, which is nice in one way in that your cushions wont ever slide around on you, but then, if you stain one, theres no flipping it. Dont stain it!
Aesthetics wise, I have the grey version, and its beautiful. But I honestly wouldnt hesitate to get the green as well, as I find that color equally if not more attractive. The legs are very solid and dont wiggle or wobble. Comfort is.frankly GREAT for a couch in this price range. Heck, its darn good for a 2500 couch. Its stiff, without feeling CHEAP stiff, if that makes any sense? Very supportive, yet comfy enough to nap or sleep on, trust me no problem there, lol. Its wide enough for 3 people to have room, there were 3 of us guys on it last night hanging out, and we werent cramped. But size wise its actually just right, its not so small that 3 cant sit comfortably, but its not too large that its a monolith in the room either. Its hard to describe the perfect size, but to me, this is, actually, the perfect size. Im 59, give or take, and have no problem comfortably stretching out on it to watch tv. And, ahem, nap on it.
When I say this was an upgrade to an old futon, this was an UPGRADE from an old futon. And I couldnt be happier with this in any way, shape, or form. I know when you go hitting furniture row and see all the cookie cutter furniture on the cheap, most of what you see is pretty darn disappointing. And online, especially, youre taking a chance getting a couch without sitting on it, seeing it in person, ect. This one has not disappointed me at ALL. It has it where it counts, period. Build quality, aesthetics, comfort, size, and the fact you get all this and stay within your 500 budget? I dont hesitate to give a bad review when its deserved, and I dont hesitate to give a good one when its deserved either. This is every bit the best bang for the buck if you have 500 to put towards a couch. I cant fathom anyone being dis/satisfied with it, and I highly recommend it.
And I think it kicks you/know/what in my man cave. Its so pretty
The futon is GONE! Long live the !
