The branches and needles are very realistic. You know its fake and yet you can allow yourself to be captivated by -- and enjoy -- the illusion. The built in lights are a bonus. I only use one of the 8 patterns (multi-colored lights persistently on) but there are crossfades and blinking (ick) if you want it. I figure the bulbs must be proprietary as it seems they are capable of being any of 5 colors (white, red, green amber and blue. I can say this tree beats the pants off our old tree for realism and visual satisfaction.
NOTE: When I was first putting it together, I thought the density of it was a little wimpy. However, once you follow their instructions and take the time to pull each branch out at a 45 degree angle it gets pretty believable.
We purchased this 4.5 foot tree for $143.95 - we feel like its a fair price for what we got.
UPDATE 2 WEEKS LATER: Very pleased, Very happy with how it looks. Comforting. Highly recommended. I will never go back to a real tree and all of its accomanying hassles. The only think lacking is a pine smell and Im sure I can find pine tree spray scent someplace.
