How to make this beautiful sofa comfortable

This sofa looks as great as its pictures and really completes my room with that Mid/Century Modern aesthetic. Unfortunately, the sofa is horribly uncomfortable. I mean it is like, unusably uncomfortable. But I look at this sofa and man it really is beautiful, so I figured I could fix the comfort side of things and have a solid comfortable sofa that fits my aesthetic. I have split this review into a few sections. Here we go: Why it is uncomfortable: to start with the seating level (height from floor to top of cushion) measures a whopping 20! You might ask, is that a big deal? I will tell you / it is a big F*! deal. To compare most sofas are 17 to 18 inches tall. You might also ask Well, doesnt the foam cushion sink down a few inches when you sit on it? No! No, it doesnt. It doesnt move. It is softer than wood but has about the same give. I plan on cutting mine into fist size pieces and making stress balls out of it. . So you sit down and you are 20 off the ground, now it gets really fun, or dumb, or just poorly designed. The seat cushion is 24 deep and meets the back support at a right angle. This means that if you were to sit down and scoot all the way back, first you will appear to be in an uncomfortable position (you are) second the position you are in will make you want to lift your legs higher, but guess what. you cant. Do you want to know why? Because you f! feet dont touch the floor. I am of average height (510) and my feet do not touch the floor when sitting all the way back on this torcher couch. So what do you do now? You have the couch/sofa of your aesthetic dreams but you cant sit on it without losing your mind. Go back to (or whatever) and start looking for some throw pillows. Youre going to need a lot of them. Get some 20x20 some 16x16 and some 12x20 pillows. At least two of each. Next, do a search for memory foam for cushions high density and pick something at least 80 long and 24 wide. I would recommend 5 thick. Look for this number in the description 44ILD Firm. Dont be scared by the Firm description, it is nice and soft. Also, get some Upholstery Batting to fill in the last inch and make the new cushions fill out the covers. BTW the cushion covers and upholstery are really well constructed and have a 3.5/star feel. You will also need a utility blade or ror blade to cut the foam. Dont use scissors just trust me, the ror is way easier. Now cut the foam to fit, cover the foam with the batting and shove them into the cushion covers. Scatter the pillows around and have a much/deserved seat. Is it comfortable? Well, it is way better than is was and only cost about 100 / 150 in supplies. Not bad! Okay, now for the real deal. This is going to get a little hard so if your happy at this point, just stop reading. I am (as you may have guessed) still not as comfortable as I want to be on this beauty yet. The next step for me will be to flip the sofa over and remove the feet. I think you might know where I am heading with this. First, do you have a compound miter saw? I do. I also like to fix and build things so this might not be for everyone. On the flip side if you were looking for a good reason to buy a compound miter saw, well now you have one. The plan is to take about an inch off of each foot. (the sofa is still too high) I am going to set up a jig to help make each cut the same. I have not finished this part yet, I plan to do it this week and will update the review. On the plus side, the foot construction for the sofa is a quality design in that they are all identical. Cool, right! Okay, more to come To sum this up: 5 stars for the aesthetic look (mid/century modern) I love how this sofa looks. Just a beaut Clark. 1 star for comfort. Truly unusably torturously uncomfortable. (this is not a joke, you will be disappointed) 3.5 stars for the overall construction. The quality construction was the reason I decided to augment this sofa into a usable piece of furniture/art instead of returning it. So, if you dont want to fix a brand new purchase to make it usable DONT buy this sofa. If like me the 750 price tag and the gorgeous mid/century aesthetic are what interested you and you are good at fixing stuff then pull the trigger now. You have your next project and a reason to buy that compound miter saw you have been thinking about. Plus throw pillows are really fun. I mean pillow fights are just the beginning. You can get all kinds of covers for them. You can get a print of your favorite animal, or person, or whatever on a custom magic pillow. You can make a theme sofa like Star Wars or a holiday sofa full of autumnal images. Do you like the beach? You can cover all those pillows in shells and sea/horses. The options are limitless. I think there is even an AI that combines the most searched images into an algorithm and prints custom covers. Roll the dice yall. But heres the thing, you are going to need throw pillows, lots of them. Peace. /EchoArk You need alot of patience to build this!
